George Parker jr. | Chowan University | Defensive back
Tell us about your college career and what the recruiting process was like. Why did you choose Chowan University? I did not have many offers coming out of high school. When I went to visit Chowan, the DB coach was really knowledgeable and I knew I could have a chance at the league with him coaching me, that’s why I choose Chowan.
What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far? My biggest accomplishment would be making 1st team All-Ciaa, I worked extremely hard this offseason and to see that pay off was a huge blessing.
What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at Chowan? One thing I learned is that all the coaches can give you is an opportunity, the rest is up to you and how much time and effort you put in while away from the game. That’s what separates good athletes and great ones.
What was your major and what are your plans if football didn’t work out? My major is recreation and wellness, with a coaching minor. I plan to coach and train athletes starting at the high school level, and one day have my own training business.
What would your teammates say about you and your qualities? They would say I work relentlessly and I would sacrifice anything for the team. They would also say I try to keep everyone motivated even when things are not going well.
What is your biggest strength that you bring to a professional team and why should pro scouts consider you? My biggest challenge is trying to manage school and training. It’s hard to get specific one on one training while I’m in the middle of nowhere, but I try to get what I need done by incorporating other people into different drills.
Who is or has been the most influential person in your life? I have great ball skills and instincts, also I have great eyes and patience at the position. My size is also great for the nfl because I can match up with taller receivers as I’m 6’2, so that’s another advantage.
Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back”/”pay it forward” in your community? The most influential person in my life is God, he leads and directs my every move. He protects and provides and I wouldn’t be in this position without him, so I thank him daily.
Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back”/”pay it forward” in your community? I have done small events working youth camps, though I want to work more on giving back and impacting the youth, because they are the future.
How are you preparing for the 2019 National Scouting Combine and what are your expectations? I’m preparing by training and working out often, my expectations are to be a top 3 prospect out of the DBs group.
What would be your ultimate achievement? My ultimate achievement would be making my family proud and doing what God has set forth for me, whether it be coaching, training or playing on someone’s team.
